MBC 2, formerly Channel 2, is a free-to-air 24-hour movie channel owned by the MBC Group. The channel has broadcast as a satellite TV channel since 2002. During its debut, it broadcast movies and television programmes subtitled in Arabic, but after the launch of MBC 4 the channel specialised in movies only.

Les médias en Côte d'Ivoire sont régis depuis 1991, par la loi 1, 2, 3. Une commission nationale de la presse et un conseil national de la communication audiovisuelle (CNCA) ont été créés. Des concessions de service public ont alors été signées entre l'État et des entreprises privées de radiodiffusion et de télévision. La chaîne de télévision publique ivoirienne est la Télévision Côte d'Ivoire (TCI) qui émet depuis la crise ivoirienne est qui n'est pas contrôlée par les pro-Gbagbo. Il existe deux grandes chaînes publiques de télévision réunies au sein de l'entité RTI (Radiodiffusion Télévision Ivoirienne) : RTI 1 (ou La Première, diffusion nationale) et RTI 2 (ou TV2, diffusée à ses débuts exclusivement sur Abidjan et sa région). Elles proposent respectivement une moyenne de 10 à 13 heures et 6 à 8 heures de programmes quotidiens chacune.

La RTI gère également un réseau de deux radios : Radio Côte d'Ivoire (couvre tout le territoire national) et Fréquence 2 (ensemble du pays, après avoir dans un premier temps uniquement desservi la région d'Abidjan). Ces deux stations publiques sont en tête des études d'audience.

Selon un sondage réalisé par le Cabinet parisien HPCI Média (en juin 2001), Fréquence 2 (musicale) et Radio Côte d'Ivoire (généraliste) dominent le palmarès en recueillant, à elles deux, plus de 60 % de l'audience (veille en cumulée), loin devant les radios internationales.
